Corn germ produced by the "wet" method of corn grains. The germ, which constitutes 8-14% of the mass of the corn grain, accounts for 84-86% of the fat contained in the corn. The germ is the raw material for the production of corn oil, as well as one of the components of animal feed.

The fat of the germ contains unsaturated fatty acids (linoleic - 56%, oleic - 30%, linolenic - 0.7%) and 14% - saturated. The protein part of the germ contains about 37% of globulins, 51% of glutelin, 5% of zein and 7% of insoluble fats. The germ contains a large set of amino acids and is rich in vitamin E (tocopherol), betacitostyronone and phytin.
